Are you thinking of visiting Maui soon? As heard on the news, Gov. Ige announced that the Re-Opening of Hawaii. “Re-opening” means visitors can by-pass the 14 day quarantine as long as they test negative for Covid19. Details and updates are available here at Department of Health website
In preparation for this Maui Re-opening, I asked our Wailea Realty Agents for some recommendations on where to eat on Maui at this time. I asked them to share their experiences on dining, especially in the restaurants where Dine-in is available. Here are what they shared:
Had a great dinner at Fabianis Kihei last week. Tristan chose it as his ” first night out of Quarantine dinner” and it did not disappoint! The outdoor dining area makes it even better than before! – Alana Rucynski, RS
Don’t forget the Wailea Kitchen. Their cocktails, tapas and ever changing dinner menu are so ono. Chef Malik is very creative – Jill McGowan, RS
Nancy Beebe, RS, also shared her experience at Wailea Kitchen which is now also known as Coladas Maui. She said: I ate at Wailea Kitchen last night 9/25/2020, with a client celebrating an accepted offer on her new condo. It’s located at 131 Wailea Ike Pl by the Wailea tennis club, and also know as Colada’s Maui known for clean food and dirty drinks! Great open air vibe and great sunset views. The dinner menu changes nightly with a great selection of vegan and gluten free options. I had the Pesto Macadamia Primavera with Mahi Mahi and it was fabulous! Smaller menu which I prefer but lots of options for everyone!
In addition, Nancy also recommended Moku Roots, which I had been hearing great things about: “One of my favorite places to eat lunch is in Lahaina Gateway, at Moku Roots. Amazing menu for vegan or vegetarians. Her farm, Mala Akala is located 6 miles away in Launiupoko where they get fresh organically managed vegetables. Enjoy constantly changing menu in a super hip eatery (see photo below)”.
Erica Haleakala, RS, mentioned some restaurants from Central Maui and upcountry: “Some of my recommendations are Mala Ocean Tavern in Lahaina, Pollis upcountry, Flatbread in Paia and Bistro Casanova in town (Kahului). Great to take advantage because some of these places are typically very hard to get into!” –
“I had the occasion of my birthday at home but not without the welcome treat of a take-away from Kamana Kitchen! This is a Nepalese family run Indian restaurant just next to Foodland which offers authentic and affordable Indian curries and speciality dishes, with indoor and outdoor dining options. Thankfully they’ve remained open for both lunch and dinner and take away”. – Katy Foxwell, RB
“Kula Bistro is one of my favorites and we did the beautiful Makawao Forest Reserve hike (6.3 mile loop) then went to Kula Bistro Cafe. The food there is phenomenal! I had the pasta with vodka sauce and substituted the shrimp for zucchini and spinach. So #onolicious The bakery and pastries are just what the doctor ordered to sweeten any mood you’re in 🙂 I took home the lemon cream puff, the keylime cheesecake, and a chocolate macadamia nut cookie” – Diane Pool, RB
Amanda Kittle, RS, highly recommended Merriman’s Kapalua: “Good food, great ocean view and 50% off all bottles of wine for Wine Wednesday for Kamaaina.
“Some of my favorite places to eat are the amazing food trucks. Two in particular are OGO and Like Poke. OGO has a variety of different items and daily specials including fish, sushi, and beef. Good portions and reasonably priced. Like Poke has fresh fish right off the boat. Awesome poke bowls and salads. OGO is located in Maui Parkway, near Ace Hardware Wailuku. Like Poke is in the foodtruck place across from Costco Gas Station.” says Jai Jimenez, RS
“Also a great place to have breakfast or lunch is upcountry Grand Ma’s Coffee House, followed by a walk on the world famous Thompson road afterwards. At Grand’ Ma’s you can find one of the best Banana Bread / Cappuccino combos on Maui and a daily choice of fresh baked muffins. They even have a fresh fish catch of the day time to time . Take a minute to breathe and enjoy God’s amazing creation!” – Reggie Audant, RB
“Fork and Salad at Azeka Mauka. They are open 11am to 8pm. They have a casual Indoor or outdoor seating or take-out. Great salads, sandwiches & soups. Build-your-own salad, customize your sandwiches. Fresh, local produce, always delicious!” – Vivian Dames
Some of Karin Carlson, RB ’s favorites:
- Pita Paradise they have great food, fresh fish (Johnny, one of the owners is out on the water catching the fish), great vegetarian options and covered patio/ outdoor dining available/
- Ami Ami at the Maui Coast Hotel, part of the Café O’Lei family. Good food and semi-outdoor and patio dining.
- Monsoon India …Yummy Indian food with stunning ocean views from every table …and lots of great vegetarian options……
- Fabiani’s on Lipoa. The entire patio is now set up for outdoor dining and the Italian food is awesome. The pizza is the best on Maui.
- 5 Palms. I love the Keawakapu beach location for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The food is great and dining on their outdoor covered lanai is awesome especially during whale season.
- Pioneer Inn…we ate at the temporary setting in the courtyard over the 4th of July weekend because the regular restaurant location was undergoing renovation. There is a “new” chef in charge and the menu has some amazing new additions…vegetarian items too.
- Ba-le (Vietnamese cuisine) located in the food court near Safeway/Kihei…talk about lots of vegetarian items…this menu is great. Right now it is take-out only but you can eat right outside the restaurant.
