Toy Shopping For A Good Cause

Oh what a fun morning we had! Wailea Realty Corp. + Windermere Real Estate sponsored a toy shopping spree at Target for the children with the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center.

We, the agents and staff, gathered at 7:30am in front of Target.  Each of us were given $50 to shop for toys for children of all ages (including Tweens and Teens).

I am pretty sure many agents bought more than $50 worth of toys. I myself overspent (yep, spent twice as much).  It truly was a joy shopping for those who need it most. It is good to make a difference in the lives of these children even in this small way of bringing them gifts.

As our Principal Broker, Brad MacArthur said “It is truly a blessing  to be able to serve our community by supporting the Friends of the Children’s Justice of Maui.  We support their endeavor to advocate and protect the children of Maui. We hope these toys will bring much joy to these kids this holiday season.”

How did this Toy Shopping Event came about?

Well, Wailea Realty Corp. + Windermere Real Estate had a tradition of bringing unwrapped toys during our company party for this purpose (to give to the Friends of Children’s Justice via The Hansen Ohana’s Toy Drive). We have been doing this tradition for many years.

This year however, due to COVID19, we are not having a Christmas Party (for safety reasons, and to follow social distancing protocol).

It was sad to think that the children are going to miss getting gifts simply because we are not having a Christmas Party. So Tom had an idea he shared with Brad. Even though we are not having a party, we still can gather together as Ohana and buy gifts for the kids.  Tom and Brad decided that the company will sponsor the shopping event. And that’s how this event came about.

We had positive feedbacks from the agents:

Alana Rucynski said: “Today was so much fun and also such a blessing! The keiki on Maui and specifically the keiki that the Children’s Justice Center need our love and support . What a great way for our office to come together!”

Dale Richardson posted on his Instagram:  “Okay this was fun! Our company sponsored a shopping spree for the agents to buy toys to donate for Christmas ~ I just wish I could be there to see those little eyes light up when the magic happens ~ Mele Kalikimaka!”

And Leslie M. Smith shared,  “Instead of a Holiday Office party this year….. This is much more meaningful.”

And here’s Karin Carlson’s reflection this morning:

“With 2 dozen of us (REALTORS® + family members) all shopping in the Target Toys & Games section at the same time, we made for quite a colorful sight…and the Target “red shopping carts” just  added to the Christmas spirit…

Because donations have been down and abuse has been on the rise our goal to supply the much needed toys to the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center during this COVID Crazy 2020 Pandemic Year Holiday Season, made this event even more special knowing that we all were able contribute …

We all made sure to select items for girls & boys as well purchasing fun stuff  for all ages of kids ranging from pre-school “littles” to high school teens and everything in between.

I was also surprised at how many other people were shopping at Target at 7:30 am on a Friday!!!

Personally… it was the most fun toy shopping experience I have ever had “

Like Dale, “We wish we could be there to see those little eyes light up when the magic happens”

Tom Tezak, owner-broker said “It was so exciting to have our Wailea family pull together this morning to help the families on Maui to have a great Christmas I especially appreciated our Wailea family of agents and how they dug deep participated by adding so many more toys to their cart then I could have imagined.”

There were about 30 of us in the event. Some agents and staff were not able to come due to various valid reasons, but they are with us in spirit (our Christmas Team Spirit that is).  We had so much fun doing this, we might do it again next year, and make it an annual event, just like our Gingerbread House contest.

Speaking of Gingerbread House contest, have you voted yet? If not here on to this blog post about this year’s Gingerbread House contest and hope to see you vote!

Back to the Toy Drive …. here we are again, before and after shopping:
