About Aloha BackPack Buddies:

Aloha Backpack Buddies - Maui Food BankDid you know that one out of five kids on Maui do not know where their next meal is coming from.  During the weekend when school is out and there is no free or reduced lunch available many children from low income families don’t have access to a hot meal or even a sandwich.

Through the Aloha Backpack Buddies program,  Maui Food Bank provides these children with a special backpack filled with six meals for them to take home over the weekend to assure that they do not go hungry.  Two years ago they started the Aloha BackPack Buddies program in one school—today they are in ten schools.  The program is rapidly growing and by next school year they want to add five additional schools.  This last school year over 15,000 backpacks were distributed providing 50,000 meals for kids in need.
