Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa and OCEAN Vodka present the Ultimate OCEAN Cocktail Showdown, tomorrow, Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  It will be held at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa’s Ocean Lawn.  Six finalist cocktails selected from hundreds of entries through a statewide and nationwide contest will face off for the title of Ultimate OCEAN cocktail. They will be joined by six celebrity chefs battling it out for the Best Chef Creation and Best Food and Cocktail Pairing. Six local nonprofits will also join the teams to raise awareness for their organizations.

The evening’s entertainment is by Jimi Canha followed by Crazy Fingers.  Event ticket holders will have free entry to the Afterparty at Black Rock Lounge.

One of the many great things about this event is that $25 of each ticket sale will be donated to six local non-profit organizations including: Hui O Wa‘a Kaulua, Women Helping Women, Make-A-Wish Hawaii, Grow Some Good, Imua Family Services and Whale Trust Maui.

Now here’s a treat – I am going to share the finalists’ recipe with all of you.  Some of you might want to try this at home. Enjoy!


A little bit of sweet, a little bit of spicy, add hints of citrus and the gardenPineapple Pele - Ocean Vodka Cocktail
Mixologist: Allison Bellows
Allison is paired with Chef William Chen from Fresh BOX and non-profit Organization, Imua Family Services.

1 ½ oz OCEAN Organic Vodka
½ oz Combier L’orange
2 Lime Wedges
3 oz Coconut Water
1 oz Pineapple Juice
⅓ Serrano Pepper
Handful of Cilantro
2-3 Cubes of Fresh Pineapple
Muddle Serrano pepper with the leaves from 3 stems of cilantro and cubes of fresh pineapple. Add Ocean Vodka, Combier L’orange, juice from 2 lime wedges, coconut water and pineapple juice. Shake and strain over ice. Garnish with cilantro sprig and fresh pineapple.


Watermelon, Coconut, Liliko’i… oh my! Out of Lahaina, Hawaii

Victor is paired with Chef Shawn Gavin from the St. Regis Princeville Resort and non-profit organization, Grow Some Good.

2 oz OCEAN Organic Vodka
3 oz Muddled WatermelonNapili Tini Ocean Vodka Cocktail
½ Napili Flo Liliko’i
3 oz Coconut Water
Splash of Soda Water
Fresh Coconut Simple Syrup
Roasted Coconut
2 Lime Wheels
Muddle and strain local watermelon, add liliko’i, coconut water, Ocean Vodka into a tumbler and add ice. Shake and strain into a martini glass that’s rimmed with fresh coconut simple syrup and toasted coconut shavings. Finish with a splash of soda water for carbonation and 2 lime wheels inside glass for citrus.


This cooler has just enough sweet, just enough cool, and just enough spice to knock your socks off.

Daniel is paired with Chef Lee Anne Wong of Koko Head Cafe and non-profit organization, Women Helping Women.

Cucumber CoolerRecipe:
2 oz OCEAN Organic Vodka
1 inch of Cucumber Diced
1 inch of Pineapple Diced
1 oz Pineapple Juice
1 oz Agave
Pinch of Chinese Five Spice
Pinch of Cinnamon
6 Leaves of Cilantro
Squeeze of Lime Wedge
Muddle all ingredients from vodka to cilantro. Add ice and shake till mixed/cooled. Fill chilled cocktail glass with ice. Pour shaker contents over ice. Top off with seltzer and squeeze lime over top. Garnish with cucumber wave skewered and mint.

2 oz OCEAN Organic Vodka
¾ oz Fresh Lemon Juice
¾ oz Upcountry Honey
Maui Farm Fresh Thai Basil
Maui Gold Pineapple
Gossling’s Ginger Beer (*)
In a pint glass, muddle pineapple & basil. Add ice, vodka, lemon and honey. Shake vigorously. Strain contents over fresh ice into glass. Finish with ginger beer. Easy stir, and garnish with a basil flower. Okolemaluna!

Ross is paired with Chef Brandon Lee of The Pig and the Lady and non-profit organization Make-A-Wish Hawai’i

1 ½ oz OCEAN Organic VodkaPoi Dog - Ocean Vodka Cocktail
¾ oz Thai Basil and Black Peppercorn Syrup
¾ oz Yuzu Citrus (¼ oz Yuzu Juice ½ oz Lemon Juice)
2 ½ oz Fresh Squeezed Pomelo or Grapefruit Juice
Kosher Salt and Black Pepper Rim
Rim half of Collins glass with salt and pepper. In a mixing tin, combine all ingredients and shake for 10 seconds. Strain over fresh ice into Collins glass. Garnish with on sprig of Italian Basil.

2 oz OCEAN Organic Vodka
¾ oz Hawaiian Ginger Simple Syrup
½ Fresh Lime
2 T. Local Mango from your Neighbor’s Tree
6 Mint Leaves
3 Basil Leaves
¼ oz Coconut Crème
Muddle lime, mint, basil, and mango. Add Ocean Vodka and ginger simple syrup. Shake very well and strain into glass filled with ice. Top with a drizzle of coconut crème. Garnish with mint and basil leaves.
Special notes: All ingredients in this cocktail are grown in Hawaii, making it a fantastic Farm to Bar cocktail! The name “Wai’ona” means “intoxicating spirit” in Hawaiian!
